As sustainability continues to move into the center of corporate conversations, many organizations face a difficult reality: ambition is easy to articulate, but far more difficult to operationalize. While environmental commitments and social impact targets have become increasingly common, embedding sustainability into the mechanisms that drive business performance remains one of the greatest challenges facing modern enterprises.

For DIMO, this challenge prompted a fundamental shift in perspective. Rather than viewing sustainability as a separate function, the organization began exploring how sustainable thinking could be integrated into every aspect of the business. Reflecting on this journey, Group Managing Director and CEO Gahanath Pandithage recalls a defining question raised in 2022: “How do we do business more sustainably?” The answer led to the realization that sustainability could no longer exist outside the business. It had to become part of how the business operates.

This thinking gave rise to DIMO’s Sustainability Agenda 2030, launched in April 2022. Built around three interconnected priorities; building a resilient business, creating resilient communities, and conserving a living planet, the framework was designed to strengthen commercial performance while creating long-term value for stakeholders. Agenda 2030 is led by the Group Managing Director/CEO, while individual pillars are driven by senior leaders across the organization.

DIMO’s experience reflects a broader shift taking place among responsible businesses worldwide. Increasingly, long-term competitiveness is determined not only by growth and efficiency, but by an organization’s ability to adapt its operating model to evolving environmental and social realities.
