A School Built to Change More Than Classrooms

What if a building could do more than provide a place to learn? In Kibera, Nairobi, a new school project is showing how construction, innovation and social impact can come together to create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. PERI has begun construction on its third school in Kenya, following a groundbreaking ceremony on 23 June 2026. Developed in partnership with the Global One Foundation and Start Somewhere gGmbH, the new secondary school will expand the existing Global One Campus, where approximately 385 children currently attend the Global One Primary School.

Designed for students in grades 10 to 12, the new facility will replace outdated structures with modern classrooms, science and computer laboratories, administrative spaces, and facilities for social and healthcare services. A walkable rooftop terrace will provide additional space for learning and future expansion. What makes the project particularly interesting is how it is being built. The school will use PERI’s TwistBlock system, a construction technology developed specifically for the Global South. Its building components are manufactured directly on site, reducing transportation requirements while creating local employment and supporting the regional economy.

The building is also designed to serve a purpose beyond school hours. Its facilities will provide opportunities for adult education and vocational training, extending its value to the wider community. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, the project demonstrates how innovative construction can become a foundation for lasting social impact, proving that sometimes, building the future begins by building a place to learn.
