20 Million Cars Later, Chery’s Global Journey Is Only Getting Started

Twenty million vehicles is more than a number. It is a measure of how far a company has travelled, and in Chery’s case, how dramatically the journey has changed direction. On 25 July 2026, Chery Group surpassed 20 million cumulative vehicle sales, 29 years after the company began its journey. Fittingly, the milestone vehicle was the all-new FULWIN, a name that traces back to the very first vehicle Chery produced and its first model to enter overseas markets. Today, FULWIN has returned as a new-generation intelligent new-energy vehicle.

But the milestone tells a bigger story than production numbers.

Chery’s journey has evolved from building an independent Chinese automotive brand to establishing a global presence. Its vehicles are now sold in more than 130 countries and regions, with nearly seven million overseas users. In the first half of 2026 alone, Chery exported 943,800 vehicles, with an average of one Chery-made vehicle heading overseas every 17 seconds.

The company is also expanding beyond simply exporting vehicles. Its strategy increasingly centres on building local manufacturing, technology and community ecosystems in international markets. From restoring its Rosslyn plant in South Africa to creating thousands of jobs, to partnering with Spain’s EV MOTORS to revitalize the historic EBRO brand, Chery is pursuing a more locally rooted approach to globalization.

So, what comes after 20 million? For Chery, it appears the answer is not simply more cars, but a bigger global footprint and a new definition of what an automotive company can become.
